Initial prototype

Initial prototype

Since we had a limited amount of time, the team (consisted of two person) decided to stick with 2D sprite game, and use Unity engine for the fact that both person had previously knowledge on it.

The very first thing we did was to create a initial gameplay using block mesh. The game would consist of procedual generated blocks that would fly towards the player, and the player should be able to avoid it. This first prototype had the character moviment and span of random predetermined prefabs.

Gameplay

Gameplay prototype

After we had the first part of prototype working, we moved on to work with the second set of gameplay, the player would be able to change color to match the block color. If the color was right, player would score a point, otherwise lose health.

At this point in the development we already had a state for new game, gameover and score, with a decent gameplay but we had to start working to set in a proper game, with the art assets and music and sounds.

Almost Done

We came up with the idea of black and white instead of red and blue (used in the prototype) and used the Yang Ying theme, along with this motif we decided would make sense for the players be ninjas. With this motif in mind, I compused a song using asian scales and asian synths, added a guitar to fast up pace since the game would be fast paced.

At this point we had a very limited amount of time to delivery the game to the jam, so we could not focused as much as we wanted on the song and art style, so we moved on with what we had, to implement in the game and animate it. In the end we were able to delivery a consistent and playable nice game.

Finished Game

We decided until now not to put any more effort on it, since we wanted to people be able to check watherever we were able to do in 48 hours, there is some things that could be definitly improved, but that is the final result that we were able to achieve.
